Events Manager
What inspired you to get into the hospitality industry?
I started working in my aunt’s cafe at the age of 13 as a Saturday job and just loved the atmosphere, dealing with customers, meeting different people and realised I wanted a career in customer service.
Fast forward to 16 and I got my first real job in a bar. It was the best 6 years of my life, going to work was like my night out. The team became my family and friends; we worked long hours but always had time for a laugh. I met some great customers and famous faces so when it came to going to university a degree in Hospitality Management was the obvious choice.
I have never looked back. I have worked in all departments and understand the struggles each team faces but for 17 years I have been in events and that’s what I love!
How would you describe yourself to someone who’d never met you?
A fiery red head with a big personality. Very loyal and passionate. Barks worse than her bite!
What is your favourite event space the Hotel?
The Exchange Suite. Its exposed steel ceiling, wooden floor and white walls give industrial vibes. Its minimal but lends itself well to any theme / room décor.
What is your favourite part of event/wedding planning?
Set up on the day of an event, pulling all the details together and all our ideas come to fruition and seeing in reality how the event will look and feel after months of collaboration among multiple parties is the best feeling.
Finally, before doors open, the room looks amazing, team are briefed and it’s the calm before service is when I stop and take it all in.
Who do you look up to/who inspires you?
My mummy. She is so selfless, always putting everyone else first. She’s had some really hard times throughout her life but never dwells on things or lets it get her down. She’s a very caring person, with lots of empathy. She spent a career in the care industry and looked after family members too. I wouldn’t have the career I do if she wasn’t willing to take a break from her own work to look after all her grandchildren. She keeps everything together even if she cant work the tv remote!
What’s your greatest passion outside work and family?
Travel & food! Anyone who knows me knows I always have a few trips planned, anything from quick city breaks to all-inclusive luxury, I am here for it all. Life is a journey, and we aren’t here for a long time so I plan to see as much of the world as I can. I am also a real foodie! I love to cook; I would rather spend a Saturday night in the kitchen with a nice bottle of wine, cooking up a storm than in a nightclub! I Love to go out and eat, anything from street food to Michelin star.
What makes you proud about working for Hastings Hotels?
The Hastings Team. We may own the most luxurious properties but that means nothing if the service doesn’t deliver that to the customer and I believe we have the best people in this small country working with us. We pull together, we help each other out when needed and we are genuinely like family. I have no issues selling the dream to my clients as I know my operations team will deliver everything I ask for and more!
